Okay, just kidding, I am not in tears over these creations, I just had a lot of fun playing with some tissue. Last week on Splitcoast, the technique lovers challenge (TLC114 - Mulberry Batik) looked cool to me and I just had to try it out. Of course, I went looking through my *stash* and I was out of mulberry paper. SO, I decided to just try the technique with some plain old white tissue paper and while it does not quite have as many veins and such as the mulberry, I think they turned out pretty. The first card I tried to make the embossing work, but I think I did too thin lined images and it turned out not really looking all that great, but the colors in the tissue looked pretty nice so I went looking in my *stash* again and found this awesome big flower and a silver metal circle thingy (from a hardware store I think) and I thought that they might work. I layered the rose cardstock on th cameo coral and then on white. The rose cardstock has a filligree pattern dry embossed on it. I did this using my fiskars texture templates. Then I layered the thin pieces of colored tissue on top the layers and secured it using four eyelets. Have I mentioned lately that I love my silent setter (by Provocraft)? So while I was setting the eyelets, the paint chipped off them - cheap eyelets apparently (not SU ones), and so I decided to go with the look and scrape a bit off of each of them to make them look roughed up! I think it works. There is still a bit of the dark pink color on them, but mostly they are silver. The sentiment came from my SU set called "Fancy Flexible Phrases" and I just stamped it in regal rose on whisper white and punched a circle and then layered that on a larger circle of lavender lace cardstock, and then layered them both on the metal circle. Metal circle and flower were both adhered to the card using glue dots.
This second card shows off the batik technique better using tissue instead of the mulberry paper. This time I stamped the little flower from SU's Polka Dots and Petals. Then I followed the directions for adding color to the tissue (or mulberry paper). After the tissue was dry and I had pressed out the embossing powder, I layered it on creamy caramel card stock because I really liked how it looked over this color. I decided that gold brads were going to look neat, so I used a push pin to create holes and inserted the brads (yes, it is true, my paper piercing tool is lost in my collection of junk). Then I stamped the sentiment, also from SU! - this time from the hostess set "Blooming with Happiness." Finally, I layered it all on some burgundy card stock and called it done. I had fun playing and plan to play with this technique a little more using some mulberry paper as well as see the results just using plain whisper white.
