Fabulous Floral Fridays - Mixed Bouquet

I absolutely LOVE this set and I am saddened by the fact that it is retiring, but then again, what sets aren't retiring this catalog??? Seriously! SHEESH! Aw well, I guess it will make room for the new sets that I will soon love.

Because it is Friday, and because it is close to Mothers Day, which we all know is the most important day of the year, other than Feb 9th, my birthday, I thought I would make some cards for all the moms in my family. I made them for my mother-in-law, my mom, and my sister-in-laws that have children. I thought that it would be nice to send them a card. I had a lot of fun making them. The card is just crayon resist. Very simple to do, but looks awesome when it is done. Then I just sponged the color over. It is just regular whisper white cardstock. I tried to keep the card simple so that I could make a lot, but I think it is really cute. Sentiment is from All Year Cheer II (also retiring - shock me, shock me, shock me).

Also, I thought I would share a couple of recipes with you, the first is the recipe I requested that my DH make me for Mothers Day breakfast in bed. I am excited to try it. It is from the same book as this week's "What's for Dinner Wednesday" meal came from.

The Ultimate French Toast

Ingredients:
1 jar Nutella
4 thick slices of bread
4 eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1 tsp vanilla
Pinch of nutmeg
pinch of cinnamon
1 tbsp butter
3/4 cup strawberries (or other assorted berries)
powdered sugar
maple syrup

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325F. Spread nutella generously on 2 slices of bread. Close like a sandwich. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Soak bread in egg mixture, liberally on both sides.

Melt butter in a medium skillet then add bread and reduce heat to medium low. Once the side is golden brown, flip and cook until golden (2-3 minutes) on the other side. Place on a rimmed baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 5 minutes.

Slice bread on a diagonal. Stack one piece on top of the other at an angle and spoon fruit over the top. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. If desired, pour a little maple syrup around the border! ENJOY! (I added a picture of the ones I made -- YUMMY!)

This second recipe is from Taste of Home Prize Winning Recipes magazine. I absolutely am a sucker for issues like this one, and when I see them I buy them because I love to cook, bake, etc. This one is AWESOME. Here is a delicious recipe for crepes that just makes me drool. My kids even like it too. It is for sure not for someone who is not a sweet tooth though because it is kind of rich and sweet.

Strawberry Crepes

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups milk
3 eggs
2 tbsp butter (melted)
1/2 tsp lemon extract
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
dash of salt

Filling:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 package of cream cheese (softened, 8oz.)
2 cups confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping:
4 cups Fresh cut up strawberries
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp sugar

DIRECTIONS:

In a large mixing bowl combine milk, eggs, butter, and extract. Combine flour, sugar, salt; add to milk mixture and beat until smooth. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.

Meanwhile, chop strawberries and place in a medium mixing bowl. Sprinkle lemon juice on top. Sprinkle sugar on top. Refrigerate. Stir before serving.

Heat a lightly greased skillet (8 inch, non stick). Stir batter, pour two tbsp into center of skillet. Lift and tilt pan to evenly coat bottom. Cook until top appears dry; flip and cook 15-20 seconds longer. Remove to a wire rack. Repeat with remaining batter, greasing skillet as needed.

In a small mixing bowl, beat the cream until still peaks form. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, confectioners sugar, and vanilla until smooth; fold in the whipped cream. Spoon two rounded tbsp of filling down the center of each crepe. Roll up. Top with strawberry topping. ENJOY!

My Decade Later Comeback and Playing Catch Up

Hello friends, It's been awhile and I kind of dropped off the face of the planet since moving to Oregon. I got busy with growing four babies into teens, and attempting to hold together a marriage with a partner who was working out of town for the most part. It was a lot! Truth be told, I have been spending most of my time over on Instagram which allows for more quick picture and caption posts (@the.amanda.sewell), but I really, genuinely miss having a journal of our adventures, so I'm back.  Some changes, my ex-partner moved out in October of 2023 (after 23 years of marriage, who would have thought?) and I am on a new, single mom adventure with the fabulous four. Luckily, they are adjusting to the changes well as we navigate this challenging time as a family team. Things are still in flux and hopefully at the end of all of this, the dust will settle and we will end up landing on our feet. Because of this change, I needed to go back to work and after not working for the past lo...

Okay, well, not me actually, probably mostly my work, but either way, I'm SUPER FLATTERED! I appreciate all the comments you leave me. They really do validate me and make me feel like I should keep on going with this blog. You all ROCK! So, I have decided to do a small giveaway to show my appreciation to you. I will have two separate contests. Both of these contests will win you blog candy (yummy embellishments, and other such fun stuff). The first one is to guess my middle name. You can post your guess as a comment to this post and then I will do a drawing of every...
