Holiday Spice Cake in a Jar

So, for Super Saturday, I made this as a sample. This week I will pretty much show you all sorts of samples I made. This is a quart sized jar gift. The colors are regal rose, tempting turquoise, and certainly celery, which I believe was the color challenge a couple weeks ago - one that I never got to. The recipe came from a little book I got at Walmart, either last year of the year before that -- for $3 -- it is called "Holiday Jar Mixes" by Andra Roberts and Wilma Teal.

Here is the recipe:
Holiday Spice Cake Mix

In the jar:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 ¼ tsp baking powder

1 ¼ tsp baking soda

1 ¼ tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp cloves

½ tsp ginger

½ tsp allspice

1 ¼ cups white sugar

½ cup packed brown sugar

In a medium bowl combine all ingredients. Mix. Place in a 1 quart glass jar. Attach a recipe card with the following ingredients and instructions:

ADD INS:

½ cup butter, softened

1/3 cup shortening

1 ¼ cups buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla

3 eggs

Cream cheese frosting (optional)

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans. In a large mixing bowl, empty Holiday Spice cake mix (from jar). Add butter, shortening, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low until combined. Beat 2 minutes on high speed. Add eggs and beat two minutes more. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks. Frost with cream cheese frosting if desired.

If it weren't so heavy to mail it I would say sure. It would probably cost me my first child to send it to you :) But, if I ever find plastic quart size jars, you can expect one is on its way to you Alli!

I really like this! I love the ties on the side of the bottle. It reminds me of a corset and something that would need to be loosened when the cake was consumed! LOL
Wonderful gift idea.

HANNA PREVIEW: For the Soul

This set is totally cool! I have not seen anything like it! I think it is perfect for a sympathy card, a thinking of you, a little hand out at church, maybe even for cards at Easter (thinking ahead here) etc. It is so CUTE! Hanna looks so angelic and well, to be completely honest, reminds me of my little sister (not sure why). I used the sketch at Card Positioning Systems (#83) for the layout. I was going for a "touched by an angel" look on the main image (and I think I kind of created that.) I used vellum to overlay the image to give it that glossy fuzz (soft focus). Stamps : For the Soul (Hanna Stamps), "God Bless" sentiment by American Art Stamp Paper: Lily Kate - Basic Grey, Neenah Solar White, SU vellum card stock, SU Whisper White Ink : Onyx Black Versafine Accessories : Sheer 5/8th Inch organdy ribbon, Nestabilities (Circle and scalloped circle), sewing machine, white thread, circle of plastic canvas, copic markers, white brads, paper piercing ...

My Decade Later Comeback and Playing Catch Up

Hello friends, It's been awhile and I kind of dropped off the face of the planet since moving to Oregon. I got busy with growing four babies into teens, and attempting to hold together a marriage with a partner who was working out of town for the most part. It was a lot! Truth be told, I have been spending most of my time over on Instagram which allows for more quick picture and caption posts (@the.amanda.sewell), but I really, genuinely miss having a journal of our adventures, so I'm back.  Some changes, my ex-partner moved out in October of 2023 (after 23 years of marriage, who would have thought?) and I am on a new, single mom adventure with the fabulous four. Luckily, they are adjusting to the changes well as we navigate this challenging time as a family team. Things are still in flux and hopefully at the end of all of this, the dust will settle and we will end up landing on our feet. Because of this change, I needed to go back to work and after not working for the past lo...
