Jaime's Visit/EASY Cauliflower Broccoli Soup

My friend Jaime came into town from California to visit and it was fun to catch up and let the kids play together. The last time we saw each other was quite awhile ago. Jaime used to live in AZ close to us. She was also one of my room mates in college. She is tons of funniness! It was totally fun to see her again and hysterical to watch the kids play together now that they are actually big enough to play together.

Here is her totally cool baking blog she started recently and you should go check out: Baking Memories at Chateau Vin Riche

Oh and I made the most simple broccoli cheese soup ever for lunch. I was surprised that it tasted as yummy as it did. In an effort to use up all the stuff in my fridge/freezer -- I chose this recipe:

EASY CAULIFLOWER BROCCOLI SOUP

1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen cauliflower
1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen broccoli (I used one that had cheese sauce - smaller pieces)
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can Cheddar cheese soup
2 soup cans milk
1 cup shredded cheddar (thrown in right before serving)

DIRECTIONS:

Put broccoli, cauliflower and 1 cup of water in a soup pot. Cook until heated. Throw all remaining ingredients in soup pot (except the cheese) and cook on low for 20 minutes until heated through, stirring frequently. Sprinkle with pepper or parsley before serving. Serve hot with crusty bread and crackers!

Here are some fun pictures of the kids . . .

Kalei teaching J how to burp. Then he tries it out. Love that face . . .

Kalei and E playing . . . M and Jaime playing Wii -- they were cow racing -- I love the faces!

Hugs Bye Bye . . . which turned into . . . snuggles Bye Bye/take down and a J sandwich!

Cute Kids Waiting on the step while we moved a car seat

I will probably be away and not blogging for the rest of the week. Things are busy busy, crazy crazy here as we try to finish up packing and prepare for the move this Saturday. We close on the house on Wednesday, and Friday I have to spend the whole day waiting at the new house for the cable guy and the bug guy to come do their thing . . . so basically I have three days to finish packing and I know I am going to have to work my bootie off! SO, see you when we get to the new house! Have a great week!

My Decade Later Comeback and Playing Catch Up

Hello friends, It's been awhile and I kind of dropped off the face of the planet since moving to Oregon. I got busy with growing four babies into teens, and attempting to hold together a marriage with a partner who was working out of town for the most part. It was a lot! Truth be told, I have been spending most of my time over on Instagram which allows for more quick picture and caption posts (@the.amanda.sewell), but I really, genuinely miss having a journal of our adventures, so I'm back.  Some changes, my ex-partner moved out in October of 2023 (after 23 years of marriage, who would have thought?) and I am on a new, single mom adventure with the fabulous four. Luckily, they are adjusting to the changes well as we navigate this challenging time as a family team. Things are still in flux and hopefully at the end of all of this, the dust will settle and we will end up landing on our feet. Because of this change, I needed to go back to work and after not working for the past lo...

HANNA PREVIEW: For the Soul

This set is totally cool! I have not seen anything like it! I think it is perfect for a sympathy card, a thinking of you, a little hand out at church, maybe even for cards at Easter (thinking ahead here) etc. It is so CUTE! Hanna looks so angelic and well, to be completely honest, reminds me of my little sister (not sure why). I used the sketch at Card Positioning Systems (#83) for the layout. I was going for a "touched by an angel" look on the main image (and I think I kind of created that.) I used vellum to overlay the image to give it that glossy fuzz (soft focus). Stamps : For the Soul (Hanna Stamps), "God Bless" sentiment by American Art Stamp Paper: Lily Kate - Basic Grey, Neenah Solar White, SU vellum card stock, SU Whisper White Ink : Onyx Black Versafine Accessories : Sheer 5/8th Inch organdy ribbon, Nestabilities (Circle and scalloped circle), sewing machine, white thread, circle of plastic canvas, copic markers, white brads, paper piercing ...

A good mail day

Yesterday was an awesome mail day! I got my swaps from Jody (texasjodylynn). Let me explain, each month, Jody and I swap three things -- cards, 3D objects (usually), and sometimes goodies we find that we think the other person might like. We have done this for about 6 months I think. Well yesterday I got the most amazing Jody package. Here are a few pictures of the stuff inside. The chocolate box was made with designer paper and said "You make life sweet" on top and inside there were some yummy dove chocolates. Seriously, dark chocolate is the BEST! Next I found this most gorgeous purse with some treasures inside it. Some gems and some princess brads, and a harry potter bookmark. The purse itself is amazing. I asked Jody how she did it and she said with chalk and craft inks and lots of embossing powder. It just shines. It is just so amazing. She put in so many brads and she said she even had to use a drill on it. Amazing! I avoid scary tools like drills wher...
