What's For Dinner Wednesday - Cranberry Crumb Pie / Private Practice

Okay, reality is that tonight we will probably eat spaghetti (something fast and easy since I am mid halloween costumes and packing to move into the new house) but I did make this gorgeous (and extremely calorie laden) dessert the other day and it was so good. I thought I would share it with you because 1) Thanksgiving is coming soon and it is festive and a change from regular old pie and 2) it could double as a meal based on its calories. LMBO!

Cranberry Crumb Pie by Eagle Brand

A cream cheese filling is topped with a cranberry sauce layer, and finished with a crunchy nut topping.

Yields: 8 servings

INGREDIENTS:
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie shell
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND(R) Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1/4 cup lemon juice from concentrate
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 (16 ounce) can whole berry cranberry sauce
1/4 cup cold butter or margarine
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Bake pie shell 8 minutes; remove from oven. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F.
2. In large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese on low until fluffy. Gradually beat in EAGLE BRAND(R) until smooth. Stir in lemon juice. Pour into prepared pastry shell.
3. In small bowl, combine 1-tablespoon sugar and cornstarch; mix well. Stir in cranberry sauce. Spoon evenly over cream cheese mixture.
4. In medium mixing bowl, cut butter into flour and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle evenly over cranberry mixture. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until bubbly and golden. Cool. Serve at room temperature or chill thoroughly. Store leftovers covered in refrigerate.

Okay, those of you who are long time blog readers know how much I love Greys Anatomy. So, I thought I would tell you all my feelings on the first few episodes of that, as well as share some of my thoughts on Addison's new show Private Practice.

Greys -- First, the music has been totally awesome as usual! I love all the songs on the episodes of Greys. One of my favorite things on Friday morning is to go to my Itunes and download some of the songs from the previous night.

I really like how each of the episodes has been on a topic this season (Change, Truth, Forgiveness, Addiction) -- I really love that format! I love how they progress the story line along it. It totally works and is great! I even like Lexie. Yep, there I said it! I really enjoy her character. OMGosh and is it SO wrong that I really want Callie to just go away so that George and Izzie can be together. That is a tad messed up, but I really do like them together. But then there is Alex. He really cares for Izzie a lot. Sometimes I think that George should get a clue and go back with his wife who is so good to him (even forgives his cheating on her without question) and Izzie should move on with Alex (who clearly needs some love since he did not get enough in his childhood). Okay, and the last thing I want to say is -- How McDreamy can McDreamy be? He is just too freaking amazing and makes me drool like every episode!

Private Practice -- I was a little skeptical that this show could work! I love Shonda and her writing team, but at the same time, Addison was not that well liked on Greys. She was the evil ex wife keeping Mer and Der apart. But M has a wee little crush on Addison so we had to watch . . . well, surprise, I actually like the show. I like how real the characters on it seem. I really like that Shonda often has flawed characters. Violet, the girl still obsessed with a past lover (how many are there out there that are like this), Pete, the guy who is still getting over a wife he never really loved properly, Cooper, the guy who just never quite matured and has feelings for a coworker that he just can't express. And my personal fave character on the show - Dell, the desk guy. He cracks me up! So far the story lines have been interesting, but the one thing that I have been annoyed with is the fact that it seems like each episode is wrapped up by the end and there is nothing that pulls me to watch the next episode . . . M agrees with me on this one. What do you think?

So glad I stopped by your blog today, forget it was private practice day! I love that show! I loved Addison on Grey's, I think she's gorgeous so I've enjoyed watching her character develop more on Practice.

LOVE Dell... that whole cake thing a couple of weeks back made me laugh so hard I thought I would pee!! I love Amy Brennenman (spelling?) and Tim Daly so I am stoked that they are in a tv show again. I think the show gets a little better each episode, but yes it's weird how the story lines just end each week.
Grey's can do no wrong by me. As long as McDreamy is there, I am sooo there!

I wish we were neighbors!! You are a girl after my own heart...crafting, cooking and a GA/PP fan!!! OMG!!!

I TOTALLY agree with you about the shows (I do have to say though...Izzie and Alex are MEANT for each other; and, being a married woman I have issues with people who mess with that so George should make up with Callie).

LOVE your knew home...thanks for sharing the photos!!

Congrats on your new house. I came by your blog today to see how you are doing. I saw the pinecone ornaments in the Oriental Trading catalog and remembered that you had done a tutorial, then thought I hadn't visited your blog in a while so here I am. LOL! Glad you are back and can't wait to see your new craft room. Good Luck on the closing.
I am so with you. I was not sure of this show either. It took me 3 episodes. And I love all the actors in this show. I was watching with my 13 year old daughter last night....and last nights episode was shocking..

I love your blog!!! Let me give you my two cents:
1. I LOVE Addison in this show! She rocks! I think that Grey's had too much going on to give her a fair shot and her own show was a great idea!
2. I am not feeling grey's as much this time around..don't get me wrong, I like it... but I think PP is sneaking up on it! I have to agree that Izzie and Alex HAVE to be together!!

HANNA PREVIEW: For the Soul

This set is totally cool! I have not seen anything like it! I think it is perfect for a sympathy card, a thinking of you, a little hand out at church, maybe even for cards at Easter (thinking ahead here) etc. It is so CUTE! Hanna looks so angelic and well, to be completely honest, reminds me of my little sister (not sure why). I used the sketch at Card Positioning Systems (#83) for the layout. I was going for a "touched by an angel" look on the main image (and I think I kind of created that.) I used vellum to overlay the image to give it that glossy fuzz (soft focus). Stamps : For the Soul (Hanna Stamps), "God Bless" sentiment by American Art Stamp Paper: Lily Kate - Basic Grey, Neenah Solar White, SU vellum card stock, SU Whisper White Ink : Onyx Black Versafine Accessories : Sheer 5/8th Inch organdy ribbon, Nestabilities (Circle and scalloped circle), sewing machine, white thread, circle of plastic canvas, copic markers, white brads, paper piercing ...

My Decade Later Comeback and Playing Catch Up

Hello friends, It's been awhile and I kind of dropped off the face of the planet since moving to Oregon. I got busy with growing four babies into teens, and attempting to hold together a marriage with a partner who was working out of town for the most part. It was a lot! Truth be told, I have been spending most of my time over on Instagram which allows for more quick picture and caption posts (@the.amanda.sewell), but I really, genuinely miss having a journal of our adventures, so I'm back.  Some changes, my ex-partner moved out in October of 2023 (after 23 years of marriage, who would have thought?) and I am on a new, single mom adventure with the fabulous four. Luckily, they are adjusting to the changes well as we navigate this challenging time as a family team. Things are still in flux and hopefully at the end of all of this, the dust will settle and we will end up landing on our feet. Because of this change, I needed to go back to work and after not working for the past lo...
